SEIU 第一分會代表頤康中心員工

許多加籍華人可以講述1994年創建頤康中心的重要性.它的宗旨是為華人長者提供文化和語言的照顧. 是王醫生(約瑟夫)和其他社區志願者們不知疲倦的努力使這一想法成為現實. 現在, 頤康中心的員工們日夜不停的和善工作為頤康中心迎得了嘉許.

在過去的幾年內, 全部四個頤康中心的工友們投票加入了工會. 他們知道, 即使有好的管理幹部, 他們仍然需要工作場所的集體保護和共同聲音. 所以他們在2010年投票加入了服務行業員工國際工會(SEIU) 第一分會. 代表安省5萬名護理和社區服務員工的SEIU第一分會, 在為工會會員改善工作條件和提高病人和客戶的護理標準兩方面都有很好的記錄.

對於頤康中心的工友們來說, 新近的中英文合同為他們創立了一個有合理工作量的公平工作場所. 並且使他們爭取周末休息的協商成為可能. 工友們和他們的家庭將可以一起共度家庭時光, 提高了生活質量.

Most Chinese Canadians can tell you about the importance of Yee Hong Centres when it was founded in 1994 with its vision of providing care to seniors with different cultural and linguistic needs. It was Dr. Joseph Wong and a group of committed volunteers who worked tirelessly to bring this idea to fruition, and today it is the workers who provide compassionate care – day in and day out – that give Yee Hong its good name.

In the last few years, Yee Hong workers at all four long-term care centres have voted to join a union. They understand that even with the best management, they need collective protection and a collective voice in the workplace which is why they voted in 2010 to accept SEIU Local 1 as their union. Representing more than 50 000 health care and community service workers in Ontario, SEIU Local 1 Canada has a track record of improving working conditions for members as well as increasing standards in patient and client care. For Yee Hong workers, the recent negotiation of a Chinese (and English) collective agreement has created a fairer workplace with better workloads, and the ability to negotiate some weekends off so workers can spend time with their own families. For Local 1 members, their union makes the difference in improving the quality of their lives and those of their families.
